About Us

Syro Malabar Society (SYMS) is one of the leading expatriate socio-cultural organizations registered under the Ministry of Social Development in the Kingdom of Bahrain. SYMS incorporate in its activities the antique inheritance of its existence in the world.

SYMS shares and cherishes the most celebrated values of universal brotherhood and compassionate love by participating in philanthropic activities like reaching out to the poor and the needy, be it in the field of health, education or any other areas needing attention. SYMS believes that united efforts of individuals can accelerate social wellbeing and further, it holds that its the duty of every human being to be socially committed ethically correct and spiritually oriented. Hence, the activities and programs of the SYMS has been designed and executed to be true to its philosophy.

Mission

The Syms as an organization of socially committed people entrust itself to undertake such activities which would impel its members and non-members to take all possible efforts to create an environment appropriate for the maximum development of the potentials, spiritual, physical, and social, for the benefit of its members and the society at large.

SYMS Work of Mercy Award

An accolade of benevolence and compassionate love. Established in 2012 by the Syro Malabar Society, Kingdom of Bahrain. The Work of Mercy Award is recognition for the altruistic humanitarian love translated into real time activities. By conferring the Award, SYMS honours, every year, one chosen outstanding person or institution from among various Individuals and organizations who work in the field of charity and humanitarian acts of love. The maiden award conferred on Rev. Fr. Davis Chiramel, the Chairman of the Kidney Federation of India who founded the Federation by donating his Kidney to one who suffered from kidney failure and in 2015the Award was presented to H.E. SH. Duaij bin Khalifa Al Khalifa for his social commitment especially for the welfare of people with intellectual disabilities, in 2016 the award was conferred to Mr. P.U Thomas, Chairman of Navajeevan Trust Kottayam Kerala and in 2017 KMCC Bahrain was presented with the award for their unmatched philanthropic activities. In 2018 Dr. Prof. (Ms.) M. S. Sunil was conferred the award for hervibrant philanthropist service. In 2019 Daya Bai a renowned social activist was conferred the award. In 2024, the award was conferred to Sr. Lucy Kurien – founder of Maher Ashram for her philanthropic and humanitarian services
